You may have seen from recent posts that we went to Ireland near the beginning of July for our anniversary, with flights courtesy of Southampton Airport. The last two nights of our holiday were spent as a city break in Cork, Ireland’s southernmost city and capital of the south-west. Our hotel for our Cork city stay was the award winning Clarion Hotel, right at the heart of the city and overlooking the River Lee, it is in a great location for exploring the city on foot. The hotel has 198 bedrooms, many of which have floor-to-ceiling windows looking our across the city.
The Clarion is a popular destination for business people visiting the city for work or conferences but also holiday makers alike. Walking into the hotel we could see many suited and booted staying at the hotel for its convenient location, quality service and excellent facilities.
The atrium of the hotel is an impressive sight, with golden ornamental spheres hanging down from the glass ceiling above. Modern, chic and open-plan, the area is full of tables and chairs is the perfect place for a meeting or to stop for a bit of work – there is even a designated meeting pod.
Our room at The Clarion had its own balcony overlooking the river, providing views across Cork City. We found the room to be bright, airy and comfortable, including all the commodities we needed for our stay.
Located 5 minutes from Oliver Plunkett Street, the hotel was in perfect proximity to many shops, bars and restaurants, so we found ourselves walking out to grab a spot of dinner at Market Lane – a wonderful restaurant recommended to us by staff at The Clarion Hotel. You will be able to read about our dinner at Market Lane in a future post.
We found the Clarion to be a perfect base for exploring Cork city centre. It lived up to all of our expectations of a 4* city-centre hotel and we would definitely consider it for future visits to Cork. We found the staff at the hotel very welcoming and friendly and our stay was very pleasant and comfortable.
Whilst The Clarion Hotel offered us one night’s complimentary stay and discounted our second night, all opinions remain my own.
