For Pete’s birthday as a treat, I took him out for lunch at The Pig hotel and restaurant in Brockenhurst. An old country house set in the New Forest and surrounded by trees, quaint villages, and rolling green hills, The Pig is a beautiful setting, especially on a sunny day.
The restaurant at The Pig hosts an expansive and ever changing menu full of mouthwatering delights; we found ourselves spoilt for choice! We were told by staff that the kitchen prides itself on using fresh and local ingredients, many of which they grow in their grounds.
The restaurant itself is beautifully set out with lots of natural light and lush green plants. Make sure you check out the colourful tiled floor!
We found that ‘Piggy bits’ are great nibbles to start your meal. We had the honey and chilli belly pork along with the crackling and apple sauce, both of which were delicious!
For our mains we continued along the pig theme having pork chap – a cut taken from the side of the pig’s head. We chose sides of the thrice-cooked chips and the garden salad with a lovely citrus dressing. If red wine is your thing, we loved the house red; full of body and flavour and a great accompaniment to our meal.
After our meal we sat in the bar where you can enjoy your favourite tipple from the vast array of drinks on offer. The Pig also has a lounge and a library where you can sit next to the roaring open fire. We found that that each of the rooms in The Pig are beautifully decorated and are full of historical character and charm.
During our visit we made time to explore the grounds of The Pig. You can wander through the kitchen garden, admire the pond, watch the green-fingered magic in the greenhouse or visit the hotel’s very own pet pig residents. This was a lovely way to end our afternoon at The Pig.
I’d definitely recommend paying a visit to the restaurant at The Pig hotel in Brockenhurst. The food is of a particularly high quality and is so flavoursome and enjoyable. The building is beautifully decorated and has a welcoming, homely feel. I also found the opportunity to visit the kitchen garden is a special touch to The Pig experience which cannot be missed and the grounds are exceptional.
Next time we’ll have to book a stay at the hotel or try out the spa treatments! But we can definitely say that the birthday boy enjoyed his lunch at The Pig!
