2016 in a Word…

January 11, 2016
Create

As the title of my blog ‘The Project Lifestyle – DIY inspired living’ suggests, I love to take on new projects and live a lifestyle of creativity. Anna, a friend of mine carefully chooses a word each year as her word of the year to muse over, act out and contemplate as the year goes on. So this year I decided to choose a word for my 2016, ‘Create’.

Create [verb]: to bring (something) into existence

The definition of ‘Create’ is to bring (something) into existence. Whether big or small, I intend to live a year of creativity, turning ideas into reality and making new things – whether to create value or just for fun and enjoyment.

So here’s what I hope my 2016 of creativity will look like:

Cooking up some new, (healthy) recipes – I really enjoy being in the kitchen trying out new recipes. I love experimenting with ingredients and flavours and really enjoy making up my own meals. This year I’m trying to create more healthy and tasty recipes that are filling and enjoyable, but also to use fresh and natural ingredients – cutting out refined and heavily processed products. Keep an eye out for these new recipes here.

Creating meaningful memories – If you didn’t see my New Year’s Resolution, it’s the same as last year: to use money for memories not materialism. I’m passionate about trying new things, visiting new places and making meaningful memories with those you love. So here’s to creating more!

Hand-making beautiful things – I love a handmade touch so this year I’m going to try and have more of a ‘DIY’ attitude; to make more with my hands, be it gifts, flower arrangements, things for the home or things for me. Some ideas of things I’d love to make include:
Beauty products – such as face masks, hand creams, bath bombs.
Handmade cards – simple but effective greetings cards with a bit of extra love and effort.
Homeware – most of my ideas come off Pinterest: DIY cushions and soft furnishings, framed pieces of art, up-cycled furniture etc.

Capturing interesting images – In 2015 I started to get into photography (that wasn’t just on my iPhone) and have come to love it. Seeing the beautiful images we got of our travels around the world inspired me to learn more about how to shoot better photos. So I intend to scour the internet for tips and tricks and get clicking to capture some beautiful shots.

Starting (and finishing) lots of new projects – ‘The Project Lifestyle’ is all about starting new projects, but it’s equally important to complete them. I aim to filter through all the project ideas I’ve brainstormed through countless notebooks and turn some of them into a reality. Some ideas are big – like creating my own business (which of course will take time), but others should be achievable within the year. I’d love for you to share in my journey, so stay tuned for some new project inspiration and a new blog series!
