A city that never sleeps; hundreds of thousands of lights flicking their warm glow towards the sky; skyscrapers that tower over the world below; the dance of red lights as mopeds meander in and out amongst the traffic; smells of fried food, spices, noodles; intense heat; and bright neon signs… this is Bangkok at night and, from our experience, it’s best seen from above.
Whilst walking the streets of Silom passing the time as we waited for our train that didn’t depart until after 10pm, we were fortunate enough to come across the gem that is Cloud 47 Sky Bar. With premium drinks and cocktails at extremely reasonable prices, a fun and friendly ambience, popular music, relaxed seating and views of the Bangkok skyline all around, Cloud 47 is not to be missed.
The views of the city were mesmerising. Looking down, people appeared the size of ants and lights, roads and buildings expanded out as far as the eye could see. We found a new appreciation for the size of the city, and being so high, we were able to take in the wonder of all the activity going on beneath our feet; a different story being written down each and every street of the city.
We sampled our way through familiar names on the cocktail menu as well as trying out some Thai beer. With a more relaxed dress code and better price tag than other more well-known Bangkok sky bars, Cloud 47 is onto a winner. The relaxed atmosphere, plentiful seating and wonderful views makes it a great addition to your holiday, giving a magical bird’s-eye perspective on the Thai capital. One not to be missed – especially if you’re waiting for a late-night train as we were!
