Last weekend we were invited by The White Star restaurant and bar in Southampton to try their new brunch menu. The White Star sits on Oxford Street, a popular place to grab a drink with friends and one of our favourite spots for eating out.
Pete and I were happy to be invited back to The White Star as we have previously enjoyed many meals there with family and friends. The staff at The White Star are friendly and welcoming. We were shown to our lovely table, a relaxed curved leather sofa, next to the window and presented with the new menu.
There’s a really nice relaxed atmosphere during the day in The White Star. We were given plenty of time to look over the menu and a jug of water was brought over to us while we decided, which I thought was a nice touch.
Having previously tried many breakfasts at The White Star including the American pancakes, French toast and the full English, we both decided to try something new for our weekend brunch and had the waffles.
Beautifully crispy and smothered with the perfect amount of toppings, the waffles tasted great! I went for bacon and maple syrup and Pete tried out the berries and vanilla cream. All of the food at The White Star is made fresh to order, seasonal and sourced from local ingredients where possible. Both the presentation and taste were great – clean plates from both of us!
After our brunch we sat back and relaxed in the chilled atmosphere of the White Star enjoying a glass of prosecco; a perfect weekend treat!
The White Star serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and from our experience, has a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. It’s in the perfect location, being situated in the middle of Oxford Street and close to both the docks and the city centre and also has a 5* hotel upstairs.
We really enjoyed our visit to The White Star and would definitely recommend the brunch menu. We’ll definitely be back to visit again to try out the lunch or dinner menus!
While our meal at The White Star was gifted to us by the Ideal Collection group, all opinions remain my own.

Hi,
I’ve written a feature about Bottomless brunches for pub trade magazine Inapub. I wondered if we might be able to use your picture of your brunch from The White Star Tavern? We can credit you!
Would be very grateful, it’s a great pic.
Many thanks,
