Castle Combe; a picture-perfect Cotswolds village

Castle Combe - The Project Lifestyle

Nestled among the rolling green hills of the Cotswolds, Castle Combe is a picturesque English village, made up of old stone cottages with pristine gardens, a winding river, and a traditional village marketplace.

While some may say that the village is ‘quintessentially English’, I’m of the belief that the word ‘quintessential’ is far from traditional English and instead is an adoptive term that people use because it sounds good. However, nobody can doubt the charm and authentic English character of this beautiful place.

Thought to date back to the 13th century, this village carries an air of history, having seen England transformed over many centuries to the country we see today.

We stopped to pick up a slice of freshly baked lemon drizzle cake from the cute stand of baked goods outside one of the cottages, posting our coins through the honesty box.

Taking a walk around the village transported us back, just for a moment, to old England, where the building stones weren’t perfect in shape or size, the rooves bowed and the marketplace sat at the heart of the community.

You can easily see why Castle Combe is recognised as one of the most picturesque places to visit in the Cotswolds.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, you might have to wait around for a few moments to get those people-free snapshots, but it is well worth the wait.
