As the days get colder and the leaves turn from green to brown, it’s nice to think back to warmer days of summer sun. In June as part of our European road trip we hit the slopes of Chamonix while they were lush and green.
The town of Chamonix is well-renowned for its lush alpine skiing, breathtaking views and beautiful snow-capped mountains, and in the summer months, despite the absence of metres and metres of snow, the resort is a sight to behold. At the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest summit in the Alps, temperatures on the ground can push 30°C but the glistening snow and glaciers still remain.
Popular with paragliders ready to dive off the edge of the mountain, cable cars run throughout the summer months, and why wouldn’t they? With panoramic views across the Italian border this place provides more than just a slope to ski down.
The town is filled with shops, clearly highlighting their target audience; skiiers, hikers and general adventurers, but there are also coffee shops and restaurants for those wanting to sit back and relax. As we discovered, Chamonix is not just a place to visit in the wintertime, it’s full of charm and breathtaking views the whole year round.
Start the day with a coffee and a crêpe and admire the morning sun on the mountains as paragliders float through the sky like feathers.
