Perched on the banks of the Swan River, Perth is the largest city and capital of Western Australia. The metropolitan city, founded in 1829, is a bustling hive of growth and activity. With great shopping, restaurants, hotels and views, it is one of my favourite cities to visit to date and I can see why many English people emigrate to the golden sands and blue oceans of Australia’s west coast.
This November we had the privilege of returning to Perth for the third time in four years, over which we’ve grown to know and love the city and its surroundings. To make our city stay extra special, this time we had the privilege of staying in the heart of the city itself, partnering with InterContinental.
Our two-night stay at InterContinental Perth was defined by luxury, attention to detail and quality service. The hotel, a recent addition to the city, is located on Hay Street, within one of the main shopping areas. From the door of the hotel, you can wander the streets of the city within seconds or wander slightly further afield to the newly-developed waterfront Elizabeth Quay and famous Bell Tower.
We arrived at the hotel through open doors to a warm welcome and a beautiful room. With crisp linens, a sumptuous bed and a ceiling to floor window of pure city views, our classic King was the perfect city base for exploration and relaxation. The room was spacious and included all of the facilities you can expect from a five-star hotel, including an indulgent rain shower.
The hotel has a light, bright and contemporary feel, using a lot of neutral colours and natural textures such as linens and glass, giving a warm and welcoming ambience.
During our stay we were offered the exclusive benefits of Club InterContinental, a personalised experience designed around individual customer needs to enhance your hotel experience. A key element of the Club InterContinental experience is the luxury lounge, which in the Perth hotel is located on the 16th floor, with views out across Perth City.
The club lounge can be enjoyed at any time of day, with a buffet selection of fresh fruit, cheese and biscuits, meat platters, sweet treats and drinks, alongside relaxing chairs, daily newspapers and magazines to enjoy or space to work (much like an airport lounge). You can also choose to visit the lounge for their complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and canapés hour.
We opted to spend breakfast time and canapés hour in the lounge on both days of our stay. Enjoying a wide range of cold and cooked breakfast options, personalised to your preferences, we enjoyed the flavours of Western Australia with fresh, seasonal produce in a perfectly relaxed setting.
During canapés hour, drinks are complimentary, so we opted to sit back with a glass (or two!) of fizz enjoying the chef’s delicate and delicious savoury treats.
Stick around for lunch and dinner, the InterContinental also offer further culinary delights at their restaurants, focusing on seasonal ingredients that are prepared to best enhance their flavour. Enjoy cocktails and tapas at Heno & Rey or refined dining at Ascua, located within the hotel. There’s also the popular Loft lounge and bar, with an outdoor terrace to enjoy the city’s beautiful warm weather whilst overlooking Hay Street.
