As the clocks go back and the nights get colder and darker, it’s nice to have a warming drink to take away the chill. Smooth, creamy and delicious, homemade hot chocolate is perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth. It’s quick and easy to make and beats the shop-bought hot chocolate powders every time.
Ingredients (makes 3-4 teacups) :
125g dark chocolate finely chopped
2tsp cocoa powder
125ml double cream
300ml semi-skimmed milk
2tsp vanilla essence
Method:
- Place the milk, cream and vanilla essence into a small saucepan and bring to a simmer.
- Take the saucepan off the heat before adding the chocolate and cocoa powder.
- Whisk until the chocolate has fully melted and the cocoa powder has dissolved.
- Return the saucepan to the heat for a few minutes, stirring continuously (be careful not to let the mixture to boil as this can burn the chocolate).
- Serve warm in pretty tea cups and decorate with your favourite toppings.
