I love Christmas markets. They are a perfect opportunity to get bespoke, handcrafted and unique gifts for friends and family that they’re guaranteed to not already have. Winchester Christmas markets are the perfect place to step into the Christmas spirit. Wooden huts line the majestic cathedral selling all sorts of treats from festive fruit wreaths to painted coasters; glass Christmas decorations to Turkish towels. The selection on offer appeals to a variety of tastes and budgets.
The Christmas markets is also a perfect day out with friends! You can take a break from Christmas shopping to take to the ice for some ice skating fun!
Grab a bite to eat at one of the food huts which sell all sorts of cooked treats such as German sausages, spicy wedges or pulled pork rolls. Alternatively, head for one of the traditional victorian stands which sell a range of treats such as caramelised nuts, candy floss, toasted marshmallows, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine.
For some extra fun you can take a step into the stable and have your photo taken in the traditional Nativity scene, alongside Mary and Joseph. There are even costumes you can put on if you’re feeling super festive!
At Christmas, it’s great to be thankful for what we have and enjoy in life. Why not visit the ‘What Lights up your Life?’ stand and add your gold card of what you’re thankful for this year!
As the sun goes down, the market lights up and hots an aray of colours! Outside of the Christmas markets, the rest of Winchester is adorned with sparkling Christmas lights and the shops that line the High St are perfect for finding those last minute gifts! Why not make a day of it and go for a meal afterwards to rest your weary legs?!
I really enjoyed my day in Winchester visiting the Christmas markets, ice skating and exploring the city before a lovely meal! What a perfect Christmassy day out!
