Red Bull gives you wings, or, at least, Red Bull have an impressive selection of wings.

On our recent trip to Germany and Austria, we visited Hangar 7, almost by accident. Driving to Salzburg we saw signs for Hangar 7, recognised by Pete to be the home of Red Bull’s Flying Bulls collection, so we deviated from the sat nav and stepped into the striking glass and steel construction; an aircraft hangar like no other.

Walking into Hangar 7 is like walking into something of the future. A 40 metre-long entrance, two cylindrical towers and a magnificent glass dome; all designed by Salzburg architect Volkmar Burgstaller. The 1,754 panes of glass are impressively beautiful, showering the historic aircraft and wealth of exhibits in bright light, even on the rainiest of days – such as the day we visited.

The hangar hosts an impressive selection of exhibits, from Felix Baumgartner’s Red Bull Stratos pod to Scuderia Toro Rosso STR 5 racing car there are so many exciting things to see; planes, cars, Hummer trucks, taxis and helicopters!

There’s also the perfect chance to enjoy some fine dining, or perhaps a drink or two. Hangar 7 is home to restaurant Ikarus; a restaurant like no other. The restaurant boasts a unique selling point: a different top chef each month. This means the menu is ever-changing to adapt to the chef in charge and their cuisine of preference – impressive right?

Visit Hangar 7 enough times throughout the year and you’ll have been taken on a culinary journey around the globe.

Hangar 7 also boasts a cafe, lounge and bar so you could have a business meeting over a coffee, or dress up for the evening and enjoy a swish cocktail in this versatile venue.

Our spontaneous visit to Hangar 7 was a delight. It truly is a place like no other – light, bright and unexpected, which I think is where most of the charm lies. Whether you’re a Red Bull racing fan into cars or planes, or whether you have no interest whatsoever, I’d recommend a visit. The architecture alone is amazing, the rest is just a bonus!

All I need now is to be invited to a black tie event in the impressive venue!
