If there’s one view I always love to see, it’s that of mountains! Last month we had the pleasure of flying to Munich for Oktoberfest, and whilst in Southern Germany, we took the opportunity to adventure into the mountains for spectacular views of the Bavarian Alps.
Picking up our VW Beetle convertible from Europcar at Munich Airport, we took the short 2-hour drive to Salzburg, visiting the famous Hangar 7 and staying the night in the beautiful city of Mozart’s birth, before winding our way up to higher altitudes.
Starting the morning with a peaceful stop at Thumsee for hot chocolate and an amble around the lake, we enjoyed warming up by the fire at the local restaurant before turning to the map with no real agenda, other than to explore.
Then we took to the car for several hours on the road. With a beautiful sunny day ahead of us, we wrapped up warm and put the roof down for an exhilarating (and blustery) day of fun!
From Salzburg we headed West across the border into Germany, weaving through quaint Bavarian villages, under cable cars, up hills and around lakes enjoying the beautiful views that Bavaria has to offer.
The traditional timber German houses dotted the rolling green foothills, looking beautiful with their balconies of flowers and impressive backdrops.
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for a day with the wind in your hair!
Blue skies, golden sunshine and wispy white clouds painted a beautiful picture for our lovely day of exploration.
If you haven’t ever visited the Alps before, I’d definitely recommend you visit and take a road trip so you can snap all the sights. If a snowy scenescape is something that appeals to you, head for the slopes in wintertime and take to skiing in the winter wonderland!
